Purpose of the role?
People with a learning disability or additional needs are often isolated and excluded from mainstream leisure and social activities. We believe that EVERYONE has the right to have fun and feel safe.
Our organised activity groups give people with additional needs the chance to make friends, enjoy social time together and try out a variety of activities.
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who are interested in getting involved with our upcoming activities and services for adults with learning disabilities and additional needs in Coventry.
What would I be doing?
You will be helping us to support a small group of people to enjoy a variety of activities including:
- Going out into the community to access wellbeing opportunities
- Encouraging participation of Music/Dance/Drama/Art/Cooking/Social groups/Sport etc
- You might want to share your skills and interests to help facilitate or even lead activities!
- Helping to set up equipment and tidy away at the end of a session
- Helping to maintain a safe and welcoming environment
What skills do I need?
- An interest in helping people, being approachable and friendly
- Calm and patient
- A good listener and happy to chat and engage with people
- Accepting of people who may be different to you
- Good time management skills, reliability
- Willing to learn and act within guidelines set out by Midland Mencap
- An enhanced DBS check and references will be required
