Help shape the future of social housing. We are seeking two exceptional Non-Executive Directors to join our Board and help guide Midland Heart through the next phase of our strategic development. As a Board member, you will play a vital role in setting strategic direction, overseeing organisational performance, and ensuring robust governance and accountability. You will bring independent judgement, constructive challenge and a commitment to the highest standards of public life. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact while working alongside a highly experienced Board and executive team.
The opportunities
- Finance / Audit Committee: We are looking for someone with a strong financial and/or operational business experience background who can contribute effectively to the Board and sit on the Finance and/or Audit Committee. You may bring experience in areas such as:
- Corporate finance or accountancy
- Audit, risk or financial governance
- Investment or treasury management
- Pensions expertise (particularly welcome, but not essential)
- People / Governance: We are also seeking a Non-Executive Director with expertise in people, governance or culture, ideally with experience in one or more of the following:
- Human Resources or organisational development
- Legal or regulatory frameworks
The role
- Contribute to the strategic direction of the organisation
- Monitor financial and operational performance
- Ensure robust governance, risk management and internal controls
- Uphold our mission, values and responsibilities to tenants and stakeholders
The Board typically meets around 10 times a year, including two strategy away days with overnight stays, and additional committee meetings aligned to your expertise. You can expect to spend around an average of 2 days a month on Board commitments, including meeting preparation, meeting attendance and engagement activities.
Who We’re Looking For
You may already have Board experience, but this is not essential. We welcome candidates who have:
- Senior leadership or executive experience in a complex organisation
- A good understanding of how Boards and Committees operate
- Strong strategic thinking and business acumen
- The confidence to provide constructive challenge and independent judgement
- Excellent communication and influencing skills
- The ability to collaborate effectively with fellow Non-Executives and the executive team
