Assistant HR Business Partner

Full-Time On-site
M

Are you an experienced HR professional ready to take your next step towards HR business partnering? We're looking for someone with substantial experience of managing complex sickness absence, grievance and disciplinary cases from start to finish, to join us as an Assistant HR Business Partner.

Whether you're an experienced HR or ER Adviser looking to move into business partnering, or already an Assistant HR Business Partner seeking your next opportunity, you'll bring the expertise to make an impact in our People Services team.

You'll work alongside our HR Business Partners and managers to build leadership capability, support colleagues and help create an inclusive, high-performing culture that consistently delivers for our tenants.

About the role

Complex employee relations casework will be at the heart of this varied generalist role. You'll take ownership of cases from initial advice through to resolution, using sound judgement and up-to-date employment law knowledge to help managers reach fair, practical and timely outcomes. Alongside your casework, you'll support organisational change and wider people initiatives, building the broader experience that will support your career progression.

What will you be doing?

As an Assistant HR Business Partner, you will:

  • Independently manage complex employee relations casework, particularly sickness absence, grievances and disciplinaries, from initial advice through to resolution.
  • Build trusted relationships with managers, providing constructive challenge and coaching to strengthen their confidence and people management capability.
  • Apply employment legislation, case law and HR best practice to manage risk and achieve fair, effective outcomes.
  • Use people data alongside wider business performance information to identify trends, understand operational challenges and recommend practical solutions that support both workforce needs and business objectives.
  • Review and implement HR policies and practices and deliver training for managers and colleagues.
  • Support our HR Business Partners with workforce planning and people initiatives, including organisational change, restructures, TUPE, engagement and wellbeing.
  • Work with our Talent, Resourcing and Reward teams to develop joined-up solutions to people challenges.

You’ll be an experienced and credible HR professional whose strength is hands-on ER case management. You may be an HR or ER Adviser ready to build on that expertise and progress towards HR business partnering, or an existing Assistant HR Business Partner looking to develop further. You’ll be confident taking ownership of complex cases, coaching managers and balancing competing priorities, with the ambition to contribute to broader people and business objectives.

Your application will clearly demonstrate:

  • Substantial experience of independently managing complex sickness absence, grievance and disciplinary cases from start to finish.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of employment legislation and case law, with experience applying it to real workplace situations and managing risk.
  • Evidence of building credibility, coaching managers, influencing stakeholders and appropriately challenging management thinking.
  • Experience contributing to HR change or improvement initiatives, with an ability to recognise how people challenges and HR decisions can influence wider business performance and operational objectives.
  • Experience analysing HR information, identifying trends and communicating practical recommendations to managers to support effective decision-making.
  • Level 7 CIPD qualification, or an equivalent level of technical expertise demonstrated through significant HR work experience.

As part of your application, please upload a cover letter alongside your CV outlining how you would bring a business partnering mindset to this role. We’d particularly welcome examples of how you’ve supported managers through complex employee relations matters, used your HR knowledge to address operational challenges, or how you would approach using workforce data and business performance information to identify priorities and contribute to wider business objectives.
