Full-Time On-site
M

As the housing sector changes, we're shaping our Property Legal Team to keep tenants and homeowners at the heart of everything we do. We're seeking a Senior Commercial Property Lawyer to join our established in-house legal team on a full-time, permanent basis. You'll report to our Head of Home Ownership & Commercial Property and give commercially focused property legal advice to internal clients, supporting the effective management of Midland Heart's leasehold and commercial interests.

You’ll manage a varied commercial property caseload and supervise and develop our Property Solicitors. You’ll also oversee the staircasing process and act as an authorised signatory under our Governance Framework, so that we deliver a proactive, reliable and results-driven legal service.

Your day to day responsibilities will include:

  • Providing clear, practical and commercially minded property legal advice, working with internal clients to find solutions that achieve positive outcomes for tenants, homeowners and Midland Heart
  • Delivering and overseeing a broad range of property work, including lease drafting and negotiation, renewals, variations, rent reviews, licences, easements, disposals and title matters
  • Overseeing the end-to-end staircasing process, making sure transactions move efficiently, risks are managed and customers get a timely service
  • Overseeing signing, sealing and execution of legal documents, acting as an authorised signatory in line with delegated authority and the Governance Framework
  • Supervising and developing Property Solicitors, monitoring the use and cost of external legal advisers, and working with the Housing Legal Team to improve processes and find efficiencies

Our ideal candidate?

These will demonstrate the following:

  • You'll be a qualified solicitor, Chartered Legal Executive or lawyer, with substantial relevant post-qualification (or equivalent) experience in property law.
  • You'll have strong, current knowledge of leasehold and commercial property matters, with experience of drafting, reviewing and negotiating leases, renewals, variations, licences and other property documentation.
  • You'll have experience of managing property transactions from instruction to completion, balancing legal risk, commercial considerations and customer outcomes, while managing competing deadlines and a varied caseload.
  • You'll be a confident communicator, able to turn complex legal issues into practical options and recommendations for internal clients, including senior leaders.
  • You'll have experience of supporting, mentoring or supervising colleagues, or the ability and willingness to develop these skills. Experience within housing, shared ownership or a regulated property environment is desirable.

Please be aware, we are happy to receive applications from experienced Property Solicitors or Legal Executives who are ready to step into a supervisory role. If you're new to shared ownership staircasing, don't worry. We'll support you to build your knowledge in this area.

Assessments are due to take place on Wednesday 18th November. Suitable applicants may be invited to take part in an assessment prior to this date. We reserve the right to close this advertisement early should we receive a suitable pool of applcants prior to the closing date.
