Main Responsibilities and Duties:
- Work a shift pattern across the college opening hours, supporting college events including door supervision and crowd control, assisting with locking/unlocking of the site, and providing a welcoming front line service to students, staff and visitors while maintaining access control and ensuring IDs are worn at all times.
- Provide cover for reception/goods in areas out of hours and during core hours as required and to the wider facilities team, particularly during non-term time.
- Maintain high visibility and vigilance, carrying out internal and external patrols to deter and detect crime, vandalism and acts of violence; respond to security incidents and assist with College/Campus alarm, fire and emergency procedures and evacuations. This includes escort duties for cash handlers and other college users as required.
- Direct, encourage, motivate and support students, including vulnerable students, who may present challenging behaviour, to ensure a responsive, focused and respectful environment with a positive effect on student behaviour, engagement and attendance.
- Assist all staff to ensure compliance with the student disciplinary process and manage incidents on College premises, in conjunction with Duty Managers, Facilities Managers and Head of Facilities; contact external services if needed (e.g. Police, Ambulance, Fire).
- Assist with the investigation of incidents, including interviews, searches, securing confiscated items, utilising CCTV and data capture as directed by management; report any faulty cameras as necessary.
- Assist with traffic management including monitoring parking, access to parking and security of carparks, including maintaining access during adverse weather.
- Complete regular building checks including visual inspections of equipment, furnishings, external doors and all access points; CCTV. Report repairs and maintain accurate records of service activity; log incidents on relevant IT systems and participate in handover meetings with detailed reports.
- Assist with the training of new employees and support for agency security personnel, including security patrolling and health and safety requirements. All post holders will be trained to act as Fire Marshals and First Aiders.
