To provide technical support for the effective delivery of practical teaching, learning and assessment activities within the department. This includes supporting and supervising students during practical sessions, maintaining safe and compliant workshop and learning environments, and ensuring the effective management, preparation, maintenance, and safe use of materials, tools, equipment, and specialist resources. The role contributes to the delivery of high-quality practical provision in accordance with relevant health and safety legislation, policies, and best practice standards.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Support and supervise students during practical sessions, workshops, demonstrations, assessments, and other curriculum activities, monitoring attendance, engagement and progress where required.
- Maintain high standards of health, safety and housekeeping within workshop, classroom and practical learning environments, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, policies and safe working practices. This may include providing first aid support where appropriate.
- Take responsibility for the safe handling, storage, maintenance and disposal of materials, chemicals, tools, equipment, and specialist resources in accordance with COSHH regulations and other relevant health and safety requirements.
- Prepare and maintain equipment, tools, materials and resources required for practical teaching sessions, including stock monitoring, ordering, receiving deliveries, and maintaining accurate inventory records.
- Provide technical advice and support to staff and students on the use of equipment, materials, systems, and relevant procedures to support effective teaching, learning and assessment activities.
- Work collaboratively with curriculum staff to support the delivery, assessment and standardisation of programmes, qualifications and practical activities.
- Support the delivery of training programmes, enrichment activities, apprenticeships, employer engagement and other departmental initiatives both on and off site as required.
- Undertake relevant training and continuous professional development to maintain up-to-date technical knowledge, industry standards and competency requirements relevant to the role.
- Contribute to the effective day-to-day operation of the department by maintaining organised workspaces, supporting audits and inspections, and ensuring resources and facilities are fit for purpose.
- All post holders will be required to be trained to act as Fire Marshals and First Aiders.
