Responsibilities:

  • Attain a registered midwifery qualification.
  • Communicate effectively with women and their families throughout the preconception, antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal stages under the supervision of the registered midwife.
  • Diagnose pregnancy, assess and monitor women holistically throughout all stages using a range of assessment methods and reach valid, reliable and comprehensive conclusions.
  • Work towards the midwifery standards of proficiency as contained in the Electronic Midwifery Ongoing Record of Achievement.
  • Gain experience under supervision of a registered midwife in line with the European Union Midwives Directive (80/155/EEC Article 4) and the NMC (2019) standards of proficiency for student midwives.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree or diploma in Adult Nursing covering 120 Level 4 credits and 60 Level 5 credits.
  • NMC registration.
  • IELTS level 7 or equivalent, or proof of GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent).
  • Post‑registration experience in a nursing setting.
  • Up‑to‑date knowledge of professional midwifery issues.
  • Ability to prioritise care appropriately.
  • Understanding of inter‑agency working including child protection and domestic violence.
  • Understanding of the principles of EDI within maternity.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Evidence of relevant CPD courses.
  • Experience within a maternity setting.
  • Knowledge of the Trust’s policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of governance and evidence‑based practice.
