The successful candidate will have current professional knowledge of industry-standard tools and workflows and an informed understanding of how AI, emerging technologies and changing user behaviours are transforming digital product design and innovation. The School of Design is seeking to appoint an Hourly Paid Lecturer in UI UX and Digital Product to join the Creative Design Department.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver and support teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, helping students develop creative, user‑centred and industry‑informed design solutions.
  • Translate contemporary professional practice into engaging learning experiences, supporting the development of practical skills in UX research, interface design, prototyping, usability testing, digital product thinking and responsible AI‑enabled design practice.
  • Contribute to the curriculum that embraces emerging digital practices, including AI‑assisted design, service design, design systems, accessibility and inclusive design, preparing graduates for careers in a rapidly changing digital landscape.
  • Work collaboratively and interdisciplinarily within the Faculty of Arts and Creative Industries, encouraging students to work across design, technology and innovation.

Remuneration

The rate of pay is £59.33 per hour for each hour of contact teaching. This rate is 2.5× the basic rate derived from the first spinal point of Middlesex's Grade 7 (Lecturer), with a yearly increment if the work continues beyond one year. For each term there is a further two weeks of pay at the basic rate for each nominal contact hour to cover end‑of‑term assessment. Appointments are a maximum of 12 weeks per year, depending on need, with the option of joining the university's pension scheme.

Qualifications and Experience

It would be advantageous to have some previous experience of teaching at higher education level or a relevant teaching qualification/accreditation, though this is not essential.

Diversity and Equality

We value diversity amongst our students and staff and welcome applications from suitably qualified candidates regardless of background. We are a member of Athena SWAN, the Race Equality Charter, Stonewall Workplace Equality Index and Disability Confident. We are committed to improving employment opportunities for under‑represented groups, including gender‑non‑conforming individuals and people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds.
