The London Sport Institute, part of the new School of Sport, Environment and Health Sciences, is seeking to appoint an Hourly Paid Academic (HPA) in Sport and Exercise Science for the 2026-2027 academic year, as part of maternity cover requirements. Specifically, this role will require availability from the start of September 2026 to the end of July 2027.
This role is suited to an experienced practitioner-academic with a strong understanding of fundamental sport and exercise science principles. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching and assessment, predominantly across undergraduate sport programmes, supporting students in developing their underpinning knowledge and practical skills for work in performance sport, the private sector and further study. They will be able to translate contemporary professional practice into engaging learning experiences, helping students develop the skills needed to excel in the areas of physiology, biomechanics, and performance psychology. Other areas such as coaching and performance analysis will also crossover and be relevant.
The rate of pay will be £41.53 per hour for each hour of contact, providing remuneration for both teaching and assessment purposes. This rate is 1.75 x the basic rate which is derived from the first spinal point of Middlesex's Grade 7 (Lecturer) position, with a yearly increment if the work continues beyond one year.
