The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office (MSO) is seeking qualified candidates for our Youth Public Safety Academy (YPSA). The goal of the YPSA is to establish respect and trust between children and law enforcement professionals. All YPSA staff will help children build confidence and work as a team while focusing on the duties and responsibilities of law enforcement personnel.
Duties:
- Under the supervision of the YPSA Director, the Operational Manager must be able to work from 7AM to 5PM (flexible hours) Monday - Friday at the YPSA, located at the MSO Training Academy in Chelmsford, MA.
- Provide direction and support for the YPSA and manage the YPSA counselors.
- Assist the YPSA Director as needed.
- Supervise and manage both Counselors and Cadets.
- Lead staff and Cadets during offsite events such as Community Day and YPSA graduation.
- Assist with food and grounds preparations for the camp each day.
- Relieve counselors during necessary breaks.
- Enforce community rules during the YPSA.
- Perform other work duties as assigned by the YPSA Director or designee.
Ideal candidates will have superior communication skills with parents, public safety personnel, and YPSA/MSO management. Past experience working with children with disabilities is preferred. Counselors work on a contractual seasonal basis from June 29, 2026 through August 14, 2026. Must work well with children in a positive educational environment and have the ability to teach young children about public safety. Perform other related work as required.
Qualifications:
- Eighteen (18) years or older;
- Possess a High School diploma.
