Your expertise will help us make well-informed decisions about where to direct our resources, ensuring that every pound we raise goes as far as possible in delivering the services our clients depend on.
With your guidance, the board will be better placed to navigate the fundraising landscape, plan confidently for the years ahead, and seize new opportunities as they arise. Whether that means helping us to assess the viability of a new project or building valuable connections, your contribution will give us the solid foundations we need to keep growing and adapting.
The people we support rely on services like home visiting, mobile IT training, counselling, employment assistance and social clubs to live more independently and stay connected to their communities. By helping to safeguard the reputation of the charity, you will be playing a vital part in making sure those services continue to reach the people who need them most.
What are we looking for?
- Experience in marketing, PR, communications, digital or brand management (charity, public or commercial sector).
- Understanding of fundraising methods (for example campaigns, events, community fundraising, corporate partnerships or individual giving), or a strong interest and willingness to learn.
- Ability to think strategically, analyse information and contribute to board‑level discussions and decisions.
- Strong communication skills, with confidence to challenge constructively, ask questions and support the executive/volunteers.
- Commitment to the charity’s aims and values, and willingness to act in the best interests of the charity at all times.
What will you be doing?
- As a trustee you will have an essential role in contributing towards the future direction of Middlesex Association for the Blind and making a real difference to the lives of people with visual impairment throughout nine London boroughs.
- You will lead on board‑level thinking for marketing, PR and digital communications, ensuring clear, consistent messaging that reflects the charity’s values and priorities.
- You will support the development of fundraising plans and campaigns, bringing insight into audiences, channels and messaging to increase donations and other income.
- You will use professional networks and contacts to open doors to potential partners, donors, sponsors and advocates for the charity.
- You will act as an ambassador for the charity at events and in the media where appropriate, helping to build reputation and trust with stakeholders.
- You will ensure fundraising and communications activity is ethical, compliant and aligned with the charity’s risk appetite and resources.
- You will work closely with the Chief Executive and the board to help us think ahead, weighing up the costs and benefits of new initiatives, making sure we are building the kind of resilience that will see us through uncertain times.
We are a small charity with a big reach, supporting over 600 people through services that include home visiting, mobile IT training, counselling, employment assistance, and social activities. You will join a committed and supportive group of trustees who care deeply about the work we do and the people we serve. Board meetings are held quarterly, with possible additional involvement through various subcommittees.
This is a chance to use your experience to support a charity that has been serving its community since 1922, ensuring it continues to thrive for years to come.
