Operations Manager
Tees Valley Together CIO are recruiting for an Operations Manager.
Job Summary
Tees Valley Together is a charity with community at its heart. We work to reduce poverty and improve life chances by delivering practical, person-centered services and support, as well as supporting other VCSE organisations in their own delivery objectives.
As Operations Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day running of TVT, ensuring our projects and services are delivered effectively, safely, and in line with our values. You will lead on safeguarding, income generation, and operational risk, while making sure staff, volunteers and trustees are supported to deliver high-quality, person-focused support.
You will manage core community services such as the Eco Shop, Home from Home, and holiday clubs, and play a key role in volunteer coordination, staff supervision, service delivery, compliance, and community engagement. You will also represent the charity at external meetings and help strengthen relationships with partners, funders, and stakeholders.
This is a hands-on role at the heart of the charityβs delivery, ideal for someone with a calm, confident presence and a deep commitment to supporting people and places to thrive.
The hours of work for the role will typically be worked Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:30am to 3:30pm at the Charity hub. You will also be required to complete the banking; this can be done within the working hours Tuesday to Friday.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Line manage staff across key services, including induction, supervision, and performance reviews
- Coordinate volunteer recruitment, onboarding, training, and day-to-day support
- Develop and manage Personal Development Plans for staff and volunteers
- Maintain the staff and volunteer training register and ensure compliance
- Monitor staff holidays and ensure adequate service cover
Operational Delivery & Oversight
- Lead the daily delivery of projects including the Eco Shop, Home from Home, holiday clubsand any future initiatives
- Project Manager the delivery of holiday clubs, ensuring equipment, staff, DBS checks, and food provision are in place
- Ensure projects meet delivery plans, quality standards, and policies
- Coordinate event delivery and seasonal initiatives
- Act as the point of contact for Health & Safety and Food Hygiene compliance
- Maintain stock levels and support financial oversight for the Eco Shop
- Provide operational support at community events and represent TVT at external meetings.
- Hold the charity phone during working hours and track/respond to enquiries.
- Act as the named Safeguarding Lead for the charity
- Lead and coordinate risk assessments across the organisation
- Manage and update the organisational Risk Register
- Contribute to policy development and reviews in line with operations Act as Health & Safety and Food Hygiene contact.
- Complete weekly bookkeeping for the charity, focused on Eco Shop and Home from Home transactions
- Support monthly reconciliations and prepare banking as required
- Work with the Funding Lead and CEO to support budget monitoring
- Lead on delivery of the Quarterly Trustee Reports and impact data
External Relationships & Representation
- Represent TVT at community meetings, forums, and external events
- Provide updates and feedback to the CEO from relevant meetings
- Support the CEO and Trustees in partnership engagement and relationship building
- Track and analyse community enquiries and feedback to inform service improvement
General Organisational Support
- Hold the charity phone during working hours and respond to queries as needed
- Support internal communications and working groups across the team
- Ensure smooth handovers when deputising for the CEO
- Maintain accurate records and systems for services under your remit
- Input into website management and communications strategy.
- Agree Organisational and Personal objectives annually with the CEO and engage in your own training and professional development relevant to the role
- Undertake any other duties as reasonably required by the CEO or Trustees

Essential Experience & Skills
- Experience managing staff and volunteers in a people-focused environment
- Knowledge of safeguarding, risk assessment, and health & safety practices
- Strong organisational and leadership skills
- Confidence handling bookkeeping and financial processes (training can be provided)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and work independently
- Experience in the VCSE or community development sector
- Knowledge of Hemlington or similar communities
- Familiarity with service evaluation and compliance monitoring
- Experience leading community events or partnership meetings
Qualifications
- Degree-Level Community Development
- Project or Operations Management
- Food Hygiene Level 2 (or willingness to achieve)
- Safeguarding training (or willingness to update)
This role is part time, 26 hours per week.
