Middlesbrough Museums is growing, and we are looking for a Visitor Experience Co-ordinator to join our team and work across two of the town’s most iconic sites: Dorman Museum and Captain Cook Birthplace Museum.

Working closely with the Visitor & Operations Manager, you will lead our frontline teams to deliver an outstanding, family-friendly offer. This isn’t just a desk job; it’s a hands-on, public facing role where you will lead by example, coaching staff to ensure every visitor leaves with a smile.

The Role

As our Visitor Experience Co-ordinator, you will have a diverse and rewarding remit:

  • You’ll recruit, train and supervise our Visitor Experience team, ensuring our staffing levels are perfect and our service is second to none.
  • You’ll manage the end-to-end catering and retail offer, using EPOS systems to monitor performance, manage stock, and maximise income to help our museums thrive.
  • You’ll be the guardian of our 5-star Food Hygiene rating, managing HACCP plans, allergen documentation (Natasha’s Law), and general building health and safety.
  • From liaising with cleaning contractors to assisting with furniture setups and ground maintenance, you’ll ensure our buildings are safe, clean and inspiring.

Who You Are

We are looking for a people person who balances warmth with a professional, commercial edge. To be successful, you should have:

  • A background in supervising staff within a retail, catering or commercial environment.
  • Experience with cash handling and EPOS systems, and the ability to manage complex safety logs.
  • You’re a natural communicator, whether you’re welcoming a school group, coaching a colleague, or resolving a customer complaint.
  • You are happy to roll up your sleeves for manual tasks and have the flexibility to work a rota that includes weekends.
  • Hold a minimum of Level 2 qualification, and a Level 3 Food Safety certificate or be willing to work towards one.
