About us: Middlesbrough Council is making great progress delivering its ambitious economic plans with exciting physical regeneration projects and unprecedented new housing growth and associated highway related schemes. Ensuring that this growth occurs in a managed way, to high standards whilst minimising disruption is an essential component in achieving this.

About the role: This is a Civil Engineer role within the Highways environment, where the successful candidate will have the opportunity to be involved in a number of different projects whilst delivering a defined role. Duties will be both office and site based across a number of different schemes and disciplines. You will design council highway schemes and oversee on-site delivery with other officers and external contractors; being a part of multi-disciplinary teams working across the Council to deliver the Council’s capital programme and the regional CRSTS programme in partnership with Tees Valley Combined Authority.

This role involves solving problems and devising solutions by co-ordinating works through internal and external stakeholders, together with office tasks such as documenting progress on schemes, work associated with agreements under the Highways Act and tracking project financials. The post requires you to hold a degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject such as Civil Engineering and demonstrable experience in a related role.

About the successful candidate: We are looking for someone who is passionate about delivering high quality schemes, who can demonstrate a 'can-do' attitude with a creative approach to problem solving. You will have experience of highway design and delivering highway construction works on site and providing solutions to problems as they arise. Experience and knowledge of Highway Design and construction/materials is a key part of the role. The successful candidate will be an experienced Civil Engineer, who takes pride in finding creative solutions and working as part of a small team to make Middlesbrough a better place to live, work and do business in.
