We have an exciting role on offer within our Neighbourhoods Service as a Neighbourhood Safety Warden in Hemlington.

We are seeking two dedicated and community-focused Neighbourhood Safety Wardens to work exclusively within the Hemlington Ward, helping to make local neighbourhoods safer, stronger, and more resilient. Funded through the government's Indices of Multiple Deprivation (IMD) programme, this role will play a key part in addressing community safety concerns, building trust with residents, and supporting a coordinated approach to tackling crime, anti-social behaviour, and environmental issues.

About the Role:

As a Neighbourhood Safety Warden, you will provide a visible and reassuring presence across Hemlington. Working closely with residents, businesses, partner agencies, the police, housing providers, and community organisations, you will help identify local issues, gather intelligence, and deliver early interventions to prevent problems from escalating.

You will be at the heart of the community, developing positive relationships and encouraging residents to actively participate in making their neighbourhood a safer place to live.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide a high-profile, uniformed presence within the community.

Build strong relationships with residents, businesses, schools, and community groups.

Identify and report community safety concerns, environmental issues, and anti-social behaviour.

Encourage and support residents to share information and intelligence safely and confidently.

Work alongside Cleveland Police and partner agencies to address local priorities. Support vulnerable residents and signpost them to appropriate services.

Assist in developing and delivering community safety initiatives and engagement activities.

Conduct regular patrols and respond to local concerns.

Gather evidence and maintain accurate records to support enforcement and intervention activities.

Promote community cohesion and resident participation

What We're Looking For Someone Who:

Is passionate about community safety and neighbourhood improvement

Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Can build trust and rapport with a diverse range of people

Is confident working independently and as part of a multi-agency team

Has experience of community engagement, neighbourhood management, housing, enforcement, policing, or a related field.

Can remain calm and professional in challenging situations

Has strong problem-solving and organisational skills

Is committed to delivering excellent customer service

To be successful in this role you need:

A GSCE Grade C in English and Maths or equivalent.

Be eligible to apply for accreditation under the Community Safety Accreditation Scheme with Cleveland Police and meet the standards of acceptance which will include passing NPPV L2 security vetting.

Hold a full driving license.

Please note the working pattern for this role is 8am – 8pm, over a 7-day week including weekends. The current shift pattern follows a 12-hour shift pattern working four days on and four days off across the calendar year.
