We have an exciting role on offer within our Highways Infrastructure & Fleet service as a Becks & Drainage Maintenance Team Leader. Middlesbrough Council is looking for a proactive and skilled Becks & Drainage Maintenance Team Leader to supervise and coordinate a small operational team delivering critical maintenance to the town's watercourses and drainage networks.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with handsâon experience in outdoor maintenance, drainage, horticulture, cleansing, or watercourse managementâsomeone who thrives in practical work, can lead a team confidently, and wants to play a key role in reducing flood risk and safeguarding our communities.
As Team Leader, you will:
- Lead, motivate, and support a small team of operatives.
- Plan and organise daily work schedules to ensure safe and efficient delivery of maintenance works.
- Carry out practical tasks such as vegetation clearance, debris removal, and minor infrastructure repairs.
- Maintain high-quality records using systems such as GIS and Gully SMART.
- Liaise with partner agencies, residents, and riparian landowners to coordinate works.
- Respond to enquiries and issues raised through the Council's CRM system.
- Ensure compliance with health & safety legislation, PPE, COSHH, and safe working practicesâespecially when working near water.
- Support Middlesbrough's emergency planning function, including participation in a 24/7 flood response call out rota.
You will play a vital role in protecting people, property and the local environment, especially during severe weather and flood events.
