We have an exciting role on offer within our Highways Infrastructure & Fleet service as a Becks and Drainage Maintenance Operative. Middlesbrough Council is seeking to employ a number of committed and hardworking Becks & Drainage Maintenance Operatives to join our dedicated team responsible for maintaining the town’s watercourses, drainage systems, and flood management assets. This is a vital role for someone who enjoys practical outdoor work, takes pride in protecting local communities, and thrives as part of a team.
As a Team Operative, you will:
- Carry out routine and reactive maintenance on becks, ditches, culverts, screens and drainage systems.
- Clear vegetation, debris and blockages to help maintain effective water flow and reduce flood risk.
- Support emergency flood response, including participating in an out of hours on call rota.
- Assist highway drainage crews with maintenance and emergency works when required.
- Operate machinery, plant, tools and vehicles safely and in line with training.
- Maintain accurate records of work completed, inspections and asset conditions using systems such as GIS or asset management software.
- Work safely at all times, following health and safety requirements, risk assessments, Council policies and PPE guidance.
- Support colleagues, share practical knowledge and participate in training to develop your skills.
This role involves outdoor manual work in all weather conditions and contributes directly to reducing flood risk across Middlesbrough. You will play a vital role in protecting people, property and the local environment, especially during severe weather and flood events.
