  • Job Purpose

Reporting to the Vice Principal, Campus & Digital Services, the Director of Estates is responsible for the strategic and operational management of the College estate.

The role ensures that buildings, grounds, engineering systems, security arrangements, logistics and support services are safe, compliant, well managed and fit for purpose.

The postholder is responsible for leading the operational delivery of the College's estates functions, ensuring all campuses, buildings, infrastructure and associated services are safe, compliant, sustainable and fit for purpose.

The role supports the delivery of the College Strategic Plan, Estates Strategy and Sustainability Strategy through the effective management of maintenance, statutory compliance, security, engineering systems, grounds, logistics, print services and goods-in operations.

The post holder is accountable for maintenance, statutory compliance, security, print services and goods-in operations to support an outstanding learning, teaching and working environment.

Responsibilities

  • Overall Responsibilities
  • Contribute to delivery of the College Strategic Plan and Estates Strategy.
  • Ensure the estates and support services functions enable excellent learner and staff experience.
  • Contribute to the Colleges Sustainability Strategy and Net Zero action plan.
  • Embed a strong culture of statutory compliance, health, safety and security.
  • Support across the Campus Services team where required.
  • The postholder is required to commit to possessing or developing digital skills appropriate to their role, as defined in the College’s Core Digital Skills framework.
  • Compliance and Maintenance
  • Lead planned maintenance across all campuses ensuring KPIs are met.
  • Lead on reactive maintenance programmes ensuring teams is reactive and effective.
  • Ensure campus services software systems are appropriate and effectively utilised.
  • Oversee building fabric, mechanical and electrical services and grounds maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with fire safety, asbestos, legionella, gas, electrical, lifting and pressure systems regulations.
  • Manage estates budgets - capital and revenue.
  • Manage the Contractor database and contractor performance.
  • Maintain accurate compliance records, assurance reports and audit trails.
  • Leadership and Strategic Development
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for campus maintenance teams and security services.
  • Ensure effective access control, CCTV, alarms, key management and incident response arrangements.
  • Work closely with safeguarding, student services and external agencies as required.
  • Lead on Emergency planning and disaster recovery related to site safety.
  • Support the Vice-principal Campus & Digital Services with Governors and other reporting
  • Deputise for VP as appropriate.

What we are looking for

  • Degree or equivalent professional qualification in engineering or associated technical discipline –
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e. g. MCIo B) - Desirable.
  • Relevant management training / qualification or experience
  • A valid driving licence
  • Strong knowledge of estates maintenance, statutory compliance and security operations.
  • Sound understanding of UK health, safety and building compliance legislation
  • Experience of managing security services, logistics or operational support functions
  • Budget management, procurement and contractor control skills.
  • Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills.
  • Significant experience in estates or facilities management within a complex organisation.
  • Proven experience managing statutory compliance frameworks.
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary operational teams.
  • Experience in education or public sector environments desirable.
