The Role
We are looking for a passionate and supportive Tutor to deliver engaging NEET (16–18) provision within our growing and innovative Adult and Community Learning department, recently graded Outstanding by OFSTED. You will guide young people who may be NEET, unemployed or returning to education after a break, helping them develop confidence, personal and social skills, employability, and essential English, maths and digital skills. Working collaboratively with the NEET team, you will design and deliver programmes that support learners into positive destinations such as education, training or employment. The role also involves building strong links with internal teams, local authorities and external agencies to create a supportive learning environment that enables every learner to overcome barriers and achieve their goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of all students.
- Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and is developmentally appropriate to the maturity and interests of all students.
- Employ a variety of teaching techniques and resources consistent with best practices, specific content knowledge, the physical limitations of the space provided, and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
- Plan and deliver a suitable Assessment Programme ensuring marked work meets Middlesbrough College Gold Standards.
- Implement Middlesbrough College’s Core Values through the Gold Standard of Teaching and Learning.
- Utilise diagnostic assessment tools to identify learning strengths and needs of every student, on a regular basis, for the purpose of intervention and/or acceleration toward academic achievement.
- Participate in Interval Verification requirements including the preparation for Awarding Body visits.
Essential What We’re Looking For
- A relevant Degree-level qualification.
- A teaching qualification, or willingness to start one upon appointment.
- Grade C/4 or above in Maths and English (or equivalent), or willingness to work towards these.
- Strong organisational and time‑management skills.
- Understanding of issues related to learner disaffection.
- A solid understanding of youth‑work approaches when working with young people.
- Commitment to professional development and keeping your knowledge up to date.
Desirable
- Experience facilitating self‑directed learning in young people.
- Evidence of sharing and disseminating good practice.
- Willingness to work towards the College’s Advanced Practitioner Programme.
