Job Title: Teacher of Psychology (sixth form)

Location: Middlesbrough College Main Campus, TS2 1AD
Salary: £29,565 – £42,172 per annum (subject to progression criteria)
Annual Leave: 45 days per annum plus bank holidays
Contract: Full time, Permanent
Department: MC6
Reporting to: Curriculum Team Leader

What You’ll Be Doing

Join our team as a Psychology Lecturer, where you will plan and deliver a wide range of engaging and work‑related learning experiences across Level 3 programmes, including A Level Psychology, BTEC Applied Psychology, and the new OCR Mental Health: Individuals and Society AAQ launching in September 2027. You will inspire learners to develop the essential skills, knowledge, behaviours and attitudes needed for success in 21st‑century learning, life and work, while creating an inclusive and supportive environment that enables every student to reach their full academic potential.

  • Plan a program of study for the curriculum being delivered that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of all students.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and developmentally appropriate for all students.
  • Employ a variety of teaching techniques and resources aligned with evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning, subject content knowledge, and student needs.
  • Plan and deliver a suitable Assessment Programme ensuring marked work and student feedback meet Middlesbrough College Standards.
  • Offer pastoral support and contribute to the Thrive programme of tutorial and enrichment opportunities to support student development beyond the curriculum.
  • Implement Middlesbrough College’s Core Values through the teaching and learning strategy.
  • Use diagnostic assessment tools to identify learning strengths and needs of every student for intervention or acceleration toward achievement.
  • Promote numeracy and literacy in all teaching and learning practices.

What We’re Looking For

We seek candidates who:

  • Are a qualified Teacher
  • Hold a relevant Degree, or equivalent
  • Have GCSEs at Grade C / Level 4 or above in English and Maths, or equivalent

Experience

  • Relevant experience of teaching Level 3 psychology
  • Experience in planning and delivering exam‑based qualifications
  • Track record of good and outstanding teaching outcomes
  • Current knowledge of IAG relating to career opportunities in associated areas for post‑16 learners and current HE progression routes
  • Pastoral support experience (e.g., personal tutor, UCAS guidance, wellbeing support) – Desirable
  • Experience of assessing/marking for awarding bodies at Level 3 – Desirable
  • Ability to teach additional subjects (e.g., Child Development or Criminology) – Desirable
  • Subject to meeting enrolment criteria for the teaching qualification

Additional Information

The Lecturer Salary Scale ranges from Pt 5 to Pt 16. Progression beyond point 11 depends on achieving and maintaining QTLS & QTS. To progress beyond point 14, Advanced Teacher Status (ATS) is expected.
