Middlesbrough College is seeking an inspiring, enthusiastic and committed Teacher of Criminology & Law to join our thriving MC6 A‑Level team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering high‑quality education across A Level Law and the WJEC Level 3 Applied Diploma in Criminology, helping our learners develop the knowledge, ambition and skills needed for future success. This part‑time role is perfect for a passionate educator who can bring real‑world context, academic rigour and motivational teaching to the classroom. You will help students grow into confident, independent learners ready for university, apprenticeships or careers in legal, criminal justice and related fields.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering engaging, challenging and inclusive lessons in Criminology and Law at Level 3 and the WJEC criminology diploma
  • Planning high‑quality programmes of study that meet individual learner needs
  • Using a range of assessment methods and providing meaningful, constructive feedback
  • Creating a positive, supportive and professional learning environment
  • Supporting learners pastorally and contributing to the wider Thrive tutorial and enrichment programme
  • Using diagnostic assessment to inform teaching and intervention
  • Embedding literacy, numeracy and evidence‑based teaching practice across delivery
  • Maintaining accurate records in line with College expectations and external regulatory requirements
  • Actively contributing to curriculum development, team meetings and continuous quality improvement
  • Taking part in open evenings, recruitment activities and wider college events
  • Promoting the College’s Core Values and safeguarding responsibilities at all times

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • A qualified teacher (or willingness to work towards teaching qualification)
  • A relevant degree in Law, Criminology or a related field
  • Experience teaching Law and/or Criminology, ideally with exam‑based qualifications
  • Strong subject knowledge and awareness of evidence‑based practices in teaching and assessment
  • Excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to motivate students and support their academic and personal development
  • Understanding of the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework and post‑16 qualification routes
  • Experience providing pastoral support (desirable)
  • Ability to teach an additional related subject such as Politics or Criminology (desirable)
