Senior Human Resources Business Partner

Location: Middlesbrough

Salary: up to £49,551 per annum

Hours: Mon – Fri 37 hours per week

Type: Permanent

Imperial Recruitment Group are working exclusively with Middlesbrough College who are looking to appoint a Senior Human Resources Business Partner

Purpose:

The Senior HR Business Partner will support senior leaders in a dynamic, fast paced college environment. The role will excel in strategic workforce planning, change management, and delivering pragmatic solutions. With excellent communication skills and the ability to build credibility quickly, the Senior HRBP will partner with senior leaders across the college, leading strategic projects and ensuring alignment with institutional goals.

Duties:

Partner with business leaders to develop and execute HR strategies that align with organisational goals.

Provide expert advice and guidance on HR policies, procedures, and best practices.

Identify training needs and coordinate with the Workforce Development team to design and deliver effective training programs.

Monitor and analyse HR metrics to guide strategic decisions and improve organisational performance.

Lead on EDI Strategy for the college.

Handle complex employee relations issues, providing mediation and conflict resolution support.

Participate in the development and implementation of company-wide HR projects and initiatives.

Ensure compliance with employment laws, regulations, and organisational policies.

Identify mid to long-term training needs and priorities, coaching managers to identify training requirements from individual annual appraisals and feeding into the corporate Training Needs Analysis and Training Plan development.

Champion the use of HR Management Information from Access and key people measures locally – identifying trends and delivering initiatives and interventions to bring about performance improvements.

Provide HR support for organisational change and restructuring activity and projects, supporting managers with redundancy situations.

Support the local implementation of cultural change initiatives and embed organisational values and behaviours in the business.

Work with HR Advisors to share best practices and raise MC policy/practice issues. Ensure the Vice Principal has a business perspective to inform the shaping of HR strategy and policy development.

Support line managers with recruitment selection activity as appropriate, liaising with the Recruitment team.

Lead on staff voice, networks, and employee engagement initiatives to foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture.

Act as a strategic partner to senior leaders, providing insights and recommendations on organisational design, workforce planning, and talent management.

Support with the mentoring and development of the HR Advisor team members, fostering a culture of learning and professional growth.

Requirements:

CIPD Level 5 or Equivalent experience: Advanced HR qualifications or equivalent experience.

Senior Leadership Support: Experience supporting senior organisational leaders in a fast-paced environment.

Strategic Projects: Experience leading HR initiatives and strategic projects within a large organisation.

Workforce Planning: Background in strategic workforce planning, including forecasting talent requirements and identifying skill gaps.

Higher Education Sector: Experience in the higher education sector is desirable but not essential.

Stakeholder Relationship Management: Experience building strong, trust-based relationships with diverse and demanding stakeholders, particularly in relation to people management issues during organisational change.

Coaching and Mentoring: Acts as a coach and trusted confidante for senior leaders, promoting leadership and management interventions.

Business Acumen: Quickly understands the client business, identifies people issues proactively, and communicates solutions confidently and persuasively.

Change Implementation: Implements people-related change and initiatives with evidence of business impact through metrics and insights.

Employee Engagement: Understands key drivers of improved employee engagement, linking people activities to business priorities and outcomes.

Professional Development: Displays personal credibility and commitment to developing as an HR professional, inspiring others to invest in their own development.
