The Role

We are seeking an experienced Port Operative to join our team as a Technical Assessor, using their industry knowledge and practical experience to support and develop apprentices within the ports and logistics sector. This role is ideal for someone with experience working as a Port Operative, involved in tasks such as loading and unloading cargo, moving goods around the port, operating equipment, and following health and safety procedures. As a Technical Assessor, you will use your industry experience to support and assess apprentices in the workplace, helping them develop the skills and knowledge needed for a successful career in the ports and logistics industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain effective relationships with employers, stakeholders, and external agencies to support learner recruitment and programme growth.
• Conduct learner enrolments, inductions, and initial assessments to identify individual learning needs and starting points.
• Assess learners' occupational competence, knowledge, skills, and behaviours in line with awarding organisation and apprenticeship standards.
• Manage a caseload of learners, ensuring timely progress, achievement, and completion.
• Ensure all assessment activities comply with funding regulations, apprenticeship requirements, awarding body standards, and organisational policies.

Qualifications

• Level 3 or equivalent qualification in the relevant vocational discipline.
• Level 2 Maths and English or equivalent Functional Skills qualifications.
• Must hold or be willing to work towards TAQA, CAVA, A1 Assessor Award, or equivalent assessor qualification.

Experience

• Relevant occupational experience within the vocational sector.
• Experience supporting, training, coaching, mentoring, or developing others.
• Proven ability to achieve performance targets and deadlines.
• Experience working with diverse learner groups.

Knowledge & Skills

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organisational and time-management abilities.
• Ability to motivate and inspire learners to achieve their goals.
• Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
