Reporting to: Associate Director, Health & Care

Salary: £23,652 - £34,849 per annum, actual salary (subject to a progression criteria)*

Annual Leave: 45 days per annum plus bank holidays (pro rata)

Contractual hours: 29.6 hours per week

Teaching hours: 864 hours per annum (pro rata)

Basis: Part time, Permanent

Join our team as a Lecturer in History and Politics, where you will plan and deliver a wide range of engaging and relevant learning experiences across A Level History (AQA) and A Level Politics (Edexcel). You will inspire students to develop and apply the skills, knowledge, behaviours and attitudes needed for success in 21st-century learning, life and work, while creating a supportive environment that enables every learner to reach their full academic potential.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Plan a program of study for the curriculum being delivered that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of all students.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and is developmentally appropriate to the maturity and interests of all students.
  • Employ a variety of teaching techniques and resources consistent with evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning, specific subject content knowledge, and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Plan and deliver a suitable Assessment Programme ensuring marked work and student feedback meets Middlesbrough College Standards.
  • Be prepared to offer pastoral support and feed into the Thrive programme of tutorial and enrichment opportunities for students in line with the college’s tutorial standards and in order to develop students Personal Development beyond the curriculum.
  • Implement Middlesbrough College’s Core Values through the delivery of the Middlesbrough College teaching and learning Strategy.
  • Utilise diagnostic assessment tools to identify learning strengths and needs of every student, on a regular basis, for the purpose of intervention and/or acceleration toward academic achievement.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Are a qualified Teacher
  • Hold a relevant Degree, or equivalent.
  • Have GCSEs at Grade C / Level 4 or above in English and Maths, or equivalent.
  • Have relevant experience of teaching A level History and Politics.
  • Have experience in planning and delivering exam-based qualifications.
  • Have a track record of good and outstanding teaching outcomes.
  • Have current knowledge of IAG relating to career opportunities in associated areas for post-16 learners and current HE progression routes.
  • Have experience of providing pastoral support, e.g. personal tutor, UCAS guidance, wellbeing support to learners – desirable.
  • Have experience of assessing/marking for awarding bodies at Level 3 – desirable.
  • Can teach additional subjects – desirable.
