Job Title: Student Support Mentor – Health & Care

Salary: £20,535 – £21,350 per annum (actual salary)
Annual Leave: 30 days per annum plus statutory Bank Holidays (pro-rata)

The Role
Make a real difference to students' lives by helping them overcome challenges, build confidence and achieve success. As a Student Support Mentor you will work closely with learners who require additional academic, wellbeing or study support, providing tailored interventions that help them stay engaged, make progress and reach their full potential. This is a rewarding opportunity to support students on their educational journey, working as part of a dedicated team committed to removing barriers to learning and promoting positive outcomes for every learner.
Key Responsibilities
- To work closely with the Curriculum area and have an input into identifying student needs, planning and implementing strategies, coaching and intervention to support student engagement, wellbeing and achievement.
- To plan and deliver a range of targeted interventions, utilising vocationally specific specialist knowledge from teaching staff where appropriate.
- To attend ‘At Risk’ meetings, and other departmental meetings necessary, providing feedback and insight into the progress of students and success of intervention.
- To liaise with teaching staff to ensure the best possible service is provided to the student(s) and that practices implemented are in line with college policies and procedures.
- To encourage the student(s) to develop independent learning and study skills.
Qualifications
- An appropriate Level 2 qualification (or equivalent) in supporting students with learning difficulties/care, or a commitment to achieving this within an agreed timescale.
- Grade 4/C or above in Maths and English or equivalent.
- A willingness to undertake any mandatory training relevant to the role.
- Risk Assessment qualification – Desirable.
- First Aid qualification – Desirable.
Experience
- Knowledge or experience of working with students who have learning difficulties and disabilities.
- Understanding or experience of planning and delivering targeted intervention sessions.
- Experience in supporting young people and adults with additional needs through a variety of mechanisms and strategies.
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of health and safety matters.
- Knowledge of risk assessment processes.
- Ability to work both collaboratively as part of a team and independently when required.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with staff and students at all levels.
