Middlesbrough College is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Lecturer in English to deliver high-quality teaching that inspires, challenges, and supports students to succeed in their studies and future careers. We are looking for an engaging and learner-focused individual with excellent subject knowledge, strong communication skills, and a genuine commitment to student success. The ideal candidate will be able to create an inclusive and motivating learning environment, work collaboratively with colleagues, and contribute positively to the continued development of our English curriculum.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality, engaging, and inclusive English teaching to support learner achievement and progression.
- Plan, prepare, and assess learning programmes that meet the individual needs and abilities of students.
- Monitor student progress, provide effective feedback, and implement interventions to improve outcomes.
- Contribute to curriculum development, quality assurance activities, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide pastoral support and help prepare students for further study, employment, and life beyond college.
Qualifications
- To be a qualified Teacher, or willing to work towards a teaching qualification.
- A relevant degree or equivalent qualification in English or a related subject.
- GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent).
- Eligibility to enrol on a teaching qualification, where required.
Experience
- Experience teaching English, ideally GCSE English, within a school or Further Education setting.
- Experience delivering exam-based qualifications and supporting learners to achieve positive outcomes.
- Experience planning, delivering, and assessing engaging lessons.
- Experience monitoring learner progress and implementing effective interventions.
- Experience providing pastoral support or acting as a tutor to learners – Desirable.
Skills & Knowledge
- Excellent subject knowledge and understanding of GCSE English specifications.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students and colleagues.
- Ability to create engaging, inclusive, and learner-focused learning environments.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
