The Role

Are you an experienced Catering & Hospitality professional looking to share your industry knowledge and help develop the next generation of talent? Middlesbrough College is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Instructor Demonstrator Assessor to support learners in developing the practical skills, knowledge and workplace behaviours required for a successful career in the Catering industry. In this rewarding role, you will train, demonstrate and assess learners in both college and workplace settings, helping them achieve their goals while supporting high-quality learning experiences that reflect current industry standards and practices. We welcome applications from professionals across all areas of the Catering sector, particularly those with assessing experience or qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Train, demonstrate, assess and support learners on competence-based and skills-based Catering programmes.
  • Support the delivery of practical Catering skills in workshops, realistic working environments and workplace settings.
  • Assist learners in developing personalised learning plans and achieving qualification and industry standards.
  • Monitor and assess learner progress, providing guidance, one-to-one support and constructive feedback.
  • Contribute to learner recruitment, enrolment, programme promotion and open day activities, while working collaboratively with colleagues and external partners.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 Catering qualification.
  • GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent).
  • Commitment to undertake any mandatory training relevant to the role.
  • Assessor and Verifier Awards – Desirable.
  • First Aid qualification – Desirable.

Experience

  • Up-to-date knowledge and practical experience within the Catering industry.
  • Experience delivering or supporting practical skills development in a Catering environment.
  • Awareness of current and emerging trends affecting the Catering sector.
  • Knowledge of career pathways and progression opportunities within Catering.
  • Experience supporting learners aged 16-18 and adult learners to achieve positive outcomes.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage and support learners effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Effective time management and organisational skills.
  • Ability to assess learner performance and provide constructive feedback.
  • Commitment to identifying, sharing and implementing best practice.
