Reporting to: Assistant Principal – Construction, Engineering, Motor Vehicle & TTE

Salary: £48,956 to £50,902 per annum, subject to a progression criteria

Contract: Full-Time, Permanent

Hours: 37 hours per week

Abatement: 15 hours per week

Teaching Hours: 354 hours per annum

Annual Leave: 42 days per annum plus statutory Bank Holidays

Pension: Teachers’ Pension Scheme

Job Role

We are seeking an exceptional Head of Teaching & Learning to drive outstanding teaching, learning and assessment across our Faculty of Construction, Engineering, Motor Vehicle and TTE. Working closely with curriculum leaders and senior managers, you will lead quality improvement, develop staff through coaching and mentoring, and ensure learners receive ambitious, engaging and industry-focused learning experiences.Applicants must bring significant teaching expertise alongside industry experience within Construction, Engineering, Motor Vehicle or TTE, enabling them to provide credible leadership and support within their specialist area. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the strategic and operational development of teaching, learning and assessment across the faculty, driving educational excellence and outstanding learner outcomes.
• Develop and support teaching staff through coaching, mentoring, CPD programmes and the sharing of effective practice.
• Lead quality improvement initiatives, including learning walks and the monitoring and evaluation of teaching standards.
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement by promoting innovative teaching methods, educational research and technology-enhanced learning.
• Collaborate with curriculum leaders and key stakeholders to ensure programmes deliver an exceptional learner experience and meet industry and workforce needs.

Qualifications

• Relevant degree or equivalent professional qualification.
• Qualified Teacher Status (or equivalent teaching qualification).
• Substantial teaching experience within a technical Construction, Engineering, Motor Vehicle or TTE discipline.
• GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths (or equivalent).
• Commitment to continuous professional development and maintaining up‑to‑date sector knowledge.

Experience

• Significant and successful teaching experience within Further or Higher Education.
• Experience of achieving high levels of learner retention, achievement and success.
• Proven ability to deliver engaging and effective teaching and learning.
• Experience of coaching, mentoring and developing staff.
• Experience of supporting quality improvement and driving teaching excellence.

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, motivate and develop others.
• Excellent knowledge of teaching, learning and assessment practices.
• Experience of coaching and mentoring staff to improve performance and outcomes.
• Knowledge and application of technology-enhanced learning and digital innovation.
• Excellent communication, organisational and stakeholder management skills.
