Middlesbrough College is seeking a highly capable estates leader to take responsibility for the performance, safety and future development of our campuses. This is a key leadership role ensuring our estate is safe, compliant, sustainable and fully equipped to support outstanding learning and working environments. As Director of Estates, you will lead both the strategic direction and day-to-day performance of the estate, overseeing maintenance, compliance, security and support services, and play a central role in shaping environments that enable success. Working with senior colleagues, you will drive our Estates and Sustainability strategies, set high standards and embed a culture of safety, efficiency and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to delivery of the College Strategic Plan and Estates Strategy.
  • Embed a strong culture of statutory compliance, health, safety and security.
  • Lead planned maintenance across all campuses ensuring KPIs are met.
  • Manage estates budgets - capital and revenue.
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for campus maintenance teams and security services.

Qualifications

  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent.
  • A valid driving licence.
  • Relevant management training / qualification or experience.
  • Degree or equivalent professional qualification in engineering or associated technical discipline – Desirable.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. MCIoB) – Desirable.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong knowledge of estates maintenance, statutory compliance and security operations.
  • Sound understanding of UK health, safety and building compliance legislation.
  • Budget management, procurement and contractor control skills.
  • Experience of managing security services, logistics or operational support functions.

Experience

  • Significant experience in estates or facilities management within a complex organisation.
  • Proven experience managing statutory compliance frameworks.
  • Experience leading multi-disciplinary operational teams.
  • Experience in education or public sector environments – Desirable.
