We are looking to appoint an Assessor in Plumbing to support apprentices to achieve plumbing qualifications, including full Apprenticeship Standards. The role involves managing a caseload of learners, conducting workplace assessments of knowledge, skills, and behaviours, and guiding learners through to successful completion and End Point Assessment. Inductions and initial assessments are carried out to identify starting points, with individual learning plans developed in collaboration with employers, ensuring clear targets and an understanding of off‑the‑job training requirements. Working closely with learners, employers, and internal colleagues, the Assessor monitors progress through regular workplace reviews, provides feedback, and helps learners overcome barriers to achievement. The role also contributes to programme performance, quality improvement, and recruitment activity, supporting targets for retention, achievement, and learner numbers. Health and safety compliance, employer risk assessments, curriculum development, and the promotion of a safe, inclusive learning environment are integral to ensuring high standards in teaching, learning, and assessment. Key Responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of Plumbing apprentices, supporting them to achieve NVQ qualifications and full Apprenticeship Standards.
- Plan and conduct inductions and initial assessments, developing individual learning plans and SMART targets in partnership with employers.
- Assess knowledge, skills, and behaviours in the workplace and deliver or assess Functional Skills where required.
- Monitor apprentice progress and provide timely feedback and support to promote achievement and retention.
- Prepare learners for End Point Assessment.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with employers, identifying opportunities to grow provision and recruit learners.
- Carry out health and safety risk assessments of employer premises to ensure compliance.
- Maintain accurate and timely learner documentation in line with funding and awarding body requirements.
- Contribute to quality assurance, self‑assessment, and continuous improvement activities.
- Promote Middlesbrough College Group services to employers and prospective learners.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Essential:
- Qualified Plumber with current occupational competence.
- GCSE English and Maths at Grade C / Level 4 or above (or equivalent).
- Practical experience within a commercial or industrial plumbing environment.
- Strong organisational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to motivate learners and work independently to meet targets.
Desirable:
- TAQA / A1 Assessor qualification (or willingness to work towards).
- Teaching qualification (or willingness to work towards).
- Internal Verification qualification (V1 / Award in Internal Verification).
- Experience of working with Apprenticeship Standards.
