Senior HR Business Partner – Europe

Middlemore has been retained to lead the search for a Senior HR Business Partner (Director level) to support our client’s European business population. This is a high-profile role within a global leader in the insurance sector, offering both impact and visibility. Reporting to the Executive Director of People & Culture, a long-standing and highly respected HR leader, you will act as a trusted partner to senior business stakeholders, with responsibility for around 150 employees across Europe.
While you will be supported by strong HR Centres of Excellence (Operations, Talent Development, and Recruitment), this is a hands-on role requiring deep European HR expertise, particularly in employee relations and employment legislation. Key Responsibilities will include:
- Act as strategic HR Business Partner for the European business, covering France, Germany, Luxembourg, and wider EMEA.
- Lead employee relations matters directly, ensuring compliance with local employment legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Advise business leaders on European employment law, employee benefits, and HR best practice.
- Partner closely with specialist HR COEs to deliver integrated people solutions across operations, talent, and recruitment.
- Support regulatory compliance in partnership with business leaders, with knowledge of frameworks such as FCA, DNB, AFM, and ACPR.
- Contribute to the wider global HR agenda, bringing European insights to global initiatives.
What are we looking for:
- Experience: Proven senior HRBP experience within financial services, ideally insurance or banking.
- Excellent stakeholder management and proven experience of managing a fast-paced client group.
- Knowledge: In-depth expertise in European employment law and hands-on ER case management (France, Germany, Luxembourg essential).
- Regulatory Awareness: Working knowledge of European financial services regulatory environments (e.g., FCA, DNB, AFM, ACPR).
- Style: Commercial, collaborative, culturally aware, and able to balance strategic influence with hands-on delivery.
