Middlemore are representing a high-growth, internationally recognised (re)insurance platform to appoint a Senior Underwriter within their Political Violence & Terrorism (PVT) team, based in London. This is a key hire supporting the Head of Line in driving profitable growth across targeted emerging markets, with a particular focus on Africa, the Middle East, and APAC. The business offers a unique combination of local underwriting expertise, strong distribution networks, and access to global capacity.
This role sits at the heart of a specialist underwriting function, combining technical underwriting, portfolio management, and leadership responsibility. You’ll play a central role in shaping and executing strategy while actively underwriting and developing broker relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head of Line in delivering the PVT business plan in line with wider strategic objectives.
- Underwrite a portfolio of Political Violence & Terrorism risks in line with appetite, ensuring disciplined and profitable growth.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, reinsurers, and key market stakeholders.
- Monitor and manage the renewal pipeline, ensuring consistent portfolio performance.
- Contribute to pricing, risk selection, and governance frameworks, including peer review of risks.
- Lead, mentor, and develop junior underwriters, fostering a high-performance culture.
- Collaborate across underwriting, distribution, and claims to maximise new business and cross-sell opportunities.
- Support reinsurance strategy, including placement and negotiation activities.
- Ensure robust data integrity, reporting accuracy, and adherence to governance and regulatory frameworks.
- Represent the business in relevant market forums and internal committees.
About You
- Extensive experience underwriting Political Violence, Terrorism, or closely aligned speciality lines.
- Strong track record of portfolio management and profitable underwriting performance.
- Experience operating within Lloyd’s and/or international speciality markets.
- Strong understanding of underwriting governance, capital models, and risk frameworks.
- Proven ability to build and maintain broker and client relationships.
- Experience in or exposure to emerging/developing markets is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated leadership capability, with experience managing or mentoring team members.
- Commercially astute, with the ability to contribute to strategy and execute effectively.
