Employment Tax & Payroll Lead

Middlemore have been retained by an International financial services firm to support in the hire of an Employment Tax & Payroll Lead for its expanding global footprint. The firm operates multiple international payrolls across several jurisdictions, using a mix of global payroll providers, offshore teams, local bureaus and Employer of Record arrangements. Due to increasing complexity, this newly created role will provide in-house expertise across employment tax compliance and payroll delivery.
Responsibilities will include:
- Provide expert advice on employment tax matters, including international employments, business travel and employee benefits
- Ensure compliance with employment tax and social security obligations across all jurisdictions
- Manage employment tax registrations, filings, disclosures and payments (including UK and overseas requirements)
- Liaise with tax authorities and external advisors
- Oversee multiple international payrolls and manage third-party payroll providers
- Review payroll reports, variances and approvals
- Lead payroll reconciliations, year-end processes and audit support
- Maintain payroll system accuracy and respond to payroll and tax queries
The ideal candidate will have a solid background in this area of expertise and will be able to lead from the front around transformation and operational excellence.

- Strong expertise in UK employment tax, with exposure to international jurisdictions
- Proven experience managing multi-country payrolls
- Relevant professional qualification (tax, payroll or accountancy)
- Strong systems and Excel skills (ADP experience desirable)
- Highly organised, detail-oriented and able to work to tight deadlines
