We are recruiting on behalf of an established UK fire protection specialist seeking an experienced Mechanical Installer/Pipe Fitter to join its gas suppression division. This is a specialist position for someone with proven experience installing gaseous fire suppression pipework - not a general plumbing or mechanical-services role. You will work on commercial, industrial and critical-environment projects throughout the UK.

The Role

You will install and modify high- and low-pressure pipework for gaseous fire suppression systems, including:

  • HFC-227ea
  • FK-5-1-12
  • Inergen
  • Argonite
  • CO2 systems

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Installing threaded pipework and high-pressure fittings to exact tolerances
  • Setting out pipework routes from approved drawings and manufacturer specifications
  • Cutting, threading and assembling pipework to a high standard
  • Installing cylinders, manifolds, valves, discharge nozzles, brackets and supports
  • Ensuring pipe sizes, routes and nozzle positions comply with system designs
  • Assisting with pressure testing, integrity testing and commissioning
  • Identifying design clashes, defects and non-conformances
  • Completing installation records, test documentation and site reports
  • Working closely with project managers, supervisors and commissioning engineers
  • Following RAMS, permit-to-work procedures and site health and safety requirements
  • Working in accordance with relevant British Standards, manufacturer guidance and applicable LPCB or FM requirements

About You

To be considered, you must have:

  • Previous experience installing gaseous fire suppression pipework
  • Strong threaded-pipe installation skills
  • Experience working with high-pressure pipe systems
  • The ability to interpret mechanical drawings, isometrics and installation manuals
  • A high standard of workmanship and attention to detail
  • The ability to work independently on live sites
  • A valid CSCS Skilled Worker card
  • A full UK driving licence
  • A willingness to travel and stay away when projects require it

Manufacturer-specific suppression-system training is highly desirable. IPAF, PASMA, manual-handling and asbestos-awareness certificates would also be beneficial.
