We are looking for an experienced Buyer to join our growing FMCG team, specialising in private label ambient products. This is a key role responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and managing supplier relationships to deliver high-quality products at competitive prices, while maintaining strong ethical and sustainability standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Product Sourcing: Identify, evaluate, and source private label ambient FMCG products that meet customer specifications, ensuring optimal price, quality, and lead times.
- Supplier Negotiation: Negotiate favourable commercial terms including pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules with international and domestic suppliers.
- Ethical & Sustainable Sourcing: Ensure all sourcing activities comply with company ethical, sustainability, and regulatory standards.
- Quality Control & Logistics: Work closely with logistics and operations teams to ensure on-time delivery, support import and customs processes, and assist with quality control where required.
- Tender Management: Manage customer tenders and provide the Sales & Marketing team with accurate pricing, product data, and market insights.
- Order Management: Oversee end-to-end order administration through the order processing system, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and a complete audit trail of documentation.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Demand Planning and Operations to maintain stock availability and meet delivery targets.
- Supplier Relationship Management: Continuously research, onboard, and develop supplier partnerships to improve cost efficiency, quality, and service levels.
- Customer & Brand Understanding: Develop a strong understanding of customer brands and requirements to support successful private label product development.
Skills & Experience
- Minimum 3 years experience in a buying role, ideally within FMCG or food, with proven success in sourcing and supplier negotiation.
- Strong commercial mindset with excellent negotiation and influencing skills.
- A can-do, proactive attitude with tenacity and determination to deliver results.
- Excellent planning, organisational, and time-management skills.
- Strong IT and spreadsheet skills, with confidence managing data and pricing.
- Knowledge of international shipping, import duties, and customs processes is advantageous.
