Ideal Location(s): Oxford, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, North London, Hertfordshire & Surrounding

At Midas, we are seeking an experienced Fire Installation & Commissioning Engineer to join a growing specialist fire-protection business delivering high-quality fire and life-safety systems across the UK.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer looking to work on varied and technically interesting projects, including commercial properties, critical environments, banking and financial sites, local authority projects and data centres.

The company has a strong track record of retaining its engineers, with low staff turnover and a genuine focus on looking after, training and developing its people.

The Role

You will be responsible for installing, testing, commissioning and handing over fire alarm, detection, emergency lighting and associated fire-protection systems.

Commissioning experience is essential for this position.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Install conventional and addressable fire alarm, detection, emergency lighting and associated fire-protection systems.
  • Commission, test and fault-find systems in accordance with relevant British Standards and company procedures.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, specifications and wiring diagrams.
  • Complete commissioning certificates, test records, service reports and handover documentation.
  • Configure cause-and-effect programming where required.
  • Diagnose and resolve on-site technical issues efficiently.
  • Commission integrated fire and life-safety systems.
  • Liaise with clients, site managers, subcontractors and internal teams.
  • Provide customers with technical guidance on the operation of installed systems.
  • Maintain high standards of health, safety, quality and compliance.

About You

We're looking for an experienced fire alarm engineer with a strong background in installation and commissioning.

You should have:

  • Proven hands-on experience installing and commissioning fire alarm systems.
  • Experience with both conventional and addressable systems.
  • Good working knowledge of BS 5839, BS 5266 and relevant fire-safety regulations.
  • Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience working with a range of fire alarm panels and manufacturers.
  • Good understanding of electrical systems and site-based installation practices.
  • Strong communication and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a project team.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Willingness to travel nationwide as required.

Experience with manufacturers such as Siemens, Kentec, Advanced or Gent would be particularly beneficial.

Gas Suppression Experience

Experience with gas/gaseous suppression systems would be a major advantage and could provide the opportunity for a higher salary package.

This is not essential, however, as full training can be provided to the right engineer. It's a great opportunity to develop your experience into specialist fire-suppression systems, particularly within critical environments such as data centres and technical facilities.

Desirable

  • Skilled Worker CSCS or ECS card.
  • FIA Level 3 training.
  • FIA Emergency Lighting training.
  • Manufacturer-specific training.
  • IPAF or PASMA certification.
  • Experience working on construction and refurbishment projects.
  • Experience commissioning integrated fire and life-safety systems.
  • Gas suppression experience. xiskglj

What's on Offer?

  • Β£50,000 – Β£55,000 basic salary
  • Potential for more with gas suppression experience
  • Door-to-door travel paid
  • Regular overtime opportunities with enhanced rates
  • Standard hours of 8:30am – 5:00pm
  • Time worked outside these hours paid as overtime
  • Manufacturer and industry training
  • Opportunity to gain additional qualifications
  • Long-term career development and progression
  • Varied projects across commercial and critical environments
  • A business with low engineer turnover and strong staff retention
  • A supportive, close-knit working environment

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Fire Alarm Installation & Commissioning Engineer looking for a long-term position with a company that invests in its engineers, offers strong earning potential and provides the opportunity to work on some genuinely interesting projects across the UK.
