Midas VFX is looking for an experienced Senior FX TD to join our growing team across a range of high-end film and television projects. We’re an artist-led studio delivering work across feature films and premium episodic productions. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex simulation challenges while working closely with VFX and CG Supervisors.
Responsibilities
- Create high-quality FX simulations for feature film and episodic work
- Develop and optimise Houdini setups and workflows
- Work across a variety of effects including:
- Large-scale explosions and destruction
- Fire, smoke and pyro simulations
- Ocean, water and fluid simulations
- Crowd and agent simulations
- Debris, particles and environmental effects
- Help troubleshoot technical and creative challenges across sequences
- Maintain efficiency while delivering high-quality final shots
- Support and mentor junior artists where required
Requirements
- Strong production experience in Houdini FX for film or high-end television
- Excellent understanding of:
- Pyro FX
- FLIP fluids
- RBD destruction
- Crowd systems
- Particles and procedural workflows
- Experience delivering large-scale explosion simulations
- Experience creating realistic water simulations including oceans, splashes and interaction work
- Experience with crowd simulation workflows and agent-based systems
- Strong understanding of optimisation and caching workflows
- Good eye for scale, timing, motion and realism
- Python or VEX knowledge beneficial
Nice To Have
- Solaris / USD workflow experience
- Experience with rendering workflows in Karma, Arnold or VRay
- Familiarity with Nuke and compositing workflows
- Experience mentoring or leading teams
