Overview

Permanent full-time Band 6 Occupational Therapist – Rheumatology / Upper Limb Orthopaedic MSK outpatient services. This 37.5 hours per week post is based in the Rheumatology Therapy Team at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust.

Responsibilities

  • Provide holistic occupational therapy assessment and treatment for a caseload of rheumatology patients, including activities of daily living (ADL) optimisation, joint protection education, splinting, pain management education, and therapeutic exercises.
  • Deliver one-to-one intervention, group treatment and home visits as appropriate.
  • For orthopaedic upper limb referrals, provide appropriate splinting to complement a wider treatment pathway.
  • Assist in service development in line with latest guidelines and provide support and training to the wider therapy team and other healthcare professionals.

Team and Scope

As part of a team of therapists delivering the service across three hospital sites within the trust, with close links to the specialist upper limb orthopaedic physiotherapy service, hand therapy team and wider MSK physiotherapy services.

The postholder will work across Wakefield and Kirklees and be part of a team delivering the service across the trust’s hospital sites (Pontefract, Dewsbury and Pinderfields, Wakefield).

Development and Support

We are committed to developing the postholder’s knowledge in this specialism through formal courses and in-service training, supporting the successful candidate to expand their knowledge for the benefit of patients and the service.
