The predicted salary is between 48000 - 72000 £ per year.

This post is offered initially on a full time 10 Programmed Activity basis (9 DCC PAs and 1 SPA PAs) although more PAs may be available, and less than full time applications may be considered. Duties will be based initially on our Wakefield (Pinderfields) and Dewsbury sites although all our medical staff are involved in delivering care to patients on all 3 sites. There may be an opportunity in the future to cover our Pontefract site to provide support for the increasing throughput of our Elective Orthopaedic service on that site. From a clinical perspective, these posts will participate in resident rotas which support provision of 24-hour Anaesthetic cover (including nights & long days).

The main duties of the post will include:

  • Provision of anaesthetic care, both acute and electively, with responsibility for the management of patients with acute and chronic conditions including complex cases.
  • Area of work will depend on individuals skill set and levels of competency.
  • On-call for obstetric anaesthesia, intensive care, or at 2nd on-call level depending on competency.
  • Pre-operative assessment.
  • Involvement in specialty and cross-specialty multi-disciplinary teams and meetings.
  • Involvement in relevant administration duties.
  • Teaching and supervision of junior medical staff and other clinicians as appropriate.
  • Active involvement in audit and clinical governance including service improvement activities.

The department is keen to support specialty doctors who wish to obtain their Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) including facilitating rotation to nearby tertiary centres for specialty experience, if required.

Person Specification

Management Skills

  • Essential: Demonstrates intelligent and analytical approach to problem solving. Good time management.
  • Desirable: Possess good organisational skills.

GMC Registration

  • Essential: Please state full GMC number. Full GMC Registration with licence to practise.

Qualifications

  • Essential: Medical Degree from recognised medical school.
  • Desirable: Progress towards or attainment of Royal College Exams ATLS, ALS, APLS or PALS certification. Higher qualification e.g. FRCA or equivalent.

Experience

  • Essential: Completed at least four years full time hospital service junior or higher grade since first obtaining full or limited registration, including a minimum 2 year experience in Anaesthetics and experience of Obstetric anaesthesia on-call.
  • Desirable: Experience of teaching clinical skills. Clinical research and development.
