My client is a long-established and highly regarded accountancy practice with a strong client base in the
agricultural sector , including farmers, landowners, and rural businesses, as well as
professional practices . They offer tailored financial support to their clients, many of whom have worked with the practice for years. Due to continued growth, they are now looking to appoint an
experienced, practice-based accountant
to strengthen their team. Role Overview:
This is a hands-on position for an
Experienced Accountant
to manage a portfolio of clients, focusing primarily on
bookkeeping ,
VAT compliance , and
financial reporting . The majority of clients are in the
agricultural sector
and include
farming businesses
and
rural professionals . Key Responsibilities:
Manage bookkeeping and VAT submissions for a range of clients, particularly in the farming and rural sectors
Prepare management accounts and year-end financial statements for sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies
Advise on sector-specific VAT matters, including the flat rate scheme, partial exemption, and land-related transactions
Liaise with HMRC on client matters and ensure all VAT compliance deadlines are met
Build and maintain trusted relationships with clients through regular contact and proactive support
Assist clients with cloud accounting software such as Xero, Sage, or QuickBooks
Support junior colleagues and review work where appropriate
Keep up to date with accounting standards and agricultural tax developments
Ideal Candidate Profile:
ACA / ACCA / AAT qualified , or qualified by experience in a UK accountancy practice
Strong background in
VAT and bookkeeping , particularly for
agriculture and professional clients
Good knowledge of rural and agricultural tax issues (subsidies, diversified income, capital allowances, etc.) is desirable
Comfortable working with cloud accounting software and supporting clients with digital tools
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work independently and manage deadlines
A personal or professional background in agriculture would be an advantage
