Mid Sussex District Council is seeking a driven and experienced individual to join our team as Head of Contracts and Services. We are looking for an experienced leader who has proven management experience in Environmental Services and Contracts, and a passion and interest in leading high profile public services through change.
As Head of Contracts and Services you will be responsible for leading a multi-disciplinary team to effectively manage the Council’s range of large contracts providing key frontline services, including waste, green spaces, leisure and parking services. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Leading service delivery to ensure goals are achieved in line with financial targets and Service and Corporate Plans.
- Operational planning, policy implementation and development, and resource management.
- Commissioning and providing effective specialist operational and strategic advice to the Director and Assistant Director.
- Supporting them to manage Member relationships as a member of the leadership family.
- Shaping leadership standards and helping to coach, develop and mentor employees.
- Modelling, promoting and enabling employees to exercise key Council behaviours and to drive improvements in Council service delivery consistent with our vision for a positive customer centred organisation.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proven experience in the management of major, high profile environmental services.
- Proven experience of procuring and managing large scale contracts.
- A clear understanding of and capacity for operational management within a Council’s political framework.
- A thorough understanding of and success in service re-design to improve efficiency, productivity, performance management and customer service.
- A relevant professional qualification or an equivalent level of management experience.
- Personal attributes including ambition, creativity, integrity and open-mindedness, a commitment to personal development, strong relationship-building skills, and high emotional intelligence.
