Job Description

Do you have an interest in the impact of consumption, resources, and waste? Do you have previous experience managing large-scale projects in an operational arena?

This is your chance to support Ipswich by leading projects aimed at driving down waste, increasing reuse and recycling, and promoting the circular economy while shaping the future of waste collection in Ipswich. We are seeking a passionate individual who is committed to environmental sustainability and has knowledge of waste collection and waste management services with a willingness to engage and interact with the public.

You will assist and advise the Waste Managers with the planned digital transformation of the service area, development, implementation, and delivery of the council’s waste-related strategies, policies, and projects, including the rollout of new services and systems, onboarding these changes with a small but dedicated team.

You will have a strong desire to support Ipswich’s implementation of any new waste and recycling legislation linked to driving down contamination and delivering waste reduction projects as well as increasing recycling rates in the borough.

You will help assist in the development of new policies and processes and work with the Council’s communication team on education, engagement, and promotion. You will work closely with our waste collections team and be involved with the Suffolk Waste Partnership, a range of council services, and the community at large to help us achieve a major step change in the borough on the waste agenda.

You may be required to work evenings, weekends, and Bank Holidays if events are planned. These will be arranged in advance.

As well as a good salary, we offer:

  • a career average pension scheme
  • generous holiday and sick pay entitlements
  • subsidised parking
  • public transport discounts
  • free swimming
  • cycle purchase scheme
  • plenty of personal and professional development opportunities
  • flexible working
  • hybrid working opportunities
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • opportunity to work with great colleagues.
