Provide a safe environment for users of the campus buildings and grounds by assisting the maintenance engineer, including helping with basic plumbing, decorating and PPM works, assisting with other general facilities duties as required or requested. This role is 37 hours a week and 52 weeks per year.
Main Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assist with PPM inspections and record keeping to relevant standards, in a timely fashion, including undertaking daily / weekly and monthly works in designated areas of work for the College, liaising with Campus Teams, reporting any defects in buildings, grounds or equipment immediately via help desk and attending and assisting as required with internal staff or external contractors.
- Attend to lift failures, including release of passengers where safe to do so, reporting all call out requests to the line manager.
- Assist with inspections and minor electrical works that are associated with mechanical installations, when qualified and experienced to undertake the works, including but not limited to, checking RCD trips and meters, testing dead circuits, changing fuses and bulbs/ tubes etc.
- Establish and maintain safe access to the campus and buildings during adverse weather conditions, using grit/ salt or other appropriate substance, to previously agreed standards and frequencies.
- Assist in providing a welcoming and friendly front line service to the public, College students and staff, assisting the College in its alarm, fire and emergency tests, procedures and evacuations and providing backup and assistance when required to Facilities team members covering breaks and lunches and covering other roles as when required or directed, including covering internal & external events.
- Monitor College assets, including routine stock checking/ ordering, periodic inventories of FF&E and the identification and reporting of more complex faults.
- Assist with basic mechanical and plumbing maintenance as requested or required, liaising with external contractors and other support / curriculum areas to ensure safe systems of work and that College health and safety procedures are adhered to.
- Monitor and utilise the Helpdesk, BMS and any other relevant Facilities / College systems, monitoring the BMS systems to ensure the mechanical installations are controlled and utilised to their maximum efficiency and checking M&E systems to ensure the building services function correctly, monitor service intervals and maintain all records.
