We have an exciting opportunity for a 12 month fixed term contract to cover maternity leave within our busy and fast paced Accommodation Team.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Senior Accommodation Officer and the team to deliver effective housing support to residents in temporary accommodation, including signposting and referrals, providing advice, assisting with benefit claims, and supporting individuals to secure long-term sustainable housing options.
- Oversee the day‑to‑day management of temporary accommodation, carrying out regular property visits across the district, monitoring standards, and completing health and safety checks to ensure accommodation remains safe and suitable.
- Intervene to prevent breakdowns such as arrears and property condition issues.
- Manage the day‑to‑day operation of council owned temporary accommodation, including routine fire alarm checks in HMOs, monitoring cleanliness and condition of communal areas, and promptly reporting disrepair to ensure standards and safety are maintained.
- Support rough sleepers across the district by proactively engaging through outreach and intervention work to help them access accommodation and support services.
- Respond to safeguarding concerns and make timely referrals to relevant internal and external support agencies.
- Deal confidently with challenging situations and work effectively with other authorities and agencies.
- Maintain good computer literacy; knowledge of Jigsaw and Devon Home Choice desirable.
- Maintain a clean driving licence and have access to a vehicle for travel across the area.
- Be prepared for occasional work outside normal office hours, including evenings and weekends.
Qualifications and Skills
- Commitment to delivering excellent services and maintaining effective relationships with officers, members, and key stakeholders.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and mediation skills.
- Computer literacy; working knowledge of Jigsaw and Devon Home Choice desirable.
- Basic disclosure check and a complete employment history of three years required if offered the position.
