Job Overview

We are looking for a Validation Technician to join the Development Management Planning Support team. The role involves the registration, validation, and fee calculation of all planning applications and pre‑application interventions, and support of the appeals and Arboricultural functions.

Responsibilities

  • Register and validate all planning applications and pre‑application submissions, ensuring compliance with national planning requirements and the Mid Devon Local Validation Checklist.
  • Calculate and verify relevant planning fees using national fee calculators and the Mid Devon pre‑application fee structure.
  • Identify relevant consultees, notify local communities and residents, produce site notices, and prepare weekly lists of applications for local papers.
  • Support the Arboricultural Officer with plotting Tree Preservation Orders, maintaining the TPO register and conducting associated searches.
  • Assist the appeals function by registering new appeals, managing appeal timetables, and administering in‑person hearings and public inquiries.
  • Manage multiple applications simultaneously, advising applicants on missing documentation and ensuring timely receipt.
  • Work under pressure to meet tight deadlines and handle conflicting priorities.
  • Enter and interrogate data across various software systems with a high level of accuracy and detail.
  • Act as the first point of contact with the service, providing clear first impressions and maintaining effective relationships with officers, members, and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • A satisfactory basic disclosure check and a minimum of three years of complete employment history will be required for hiring.
  • Familiarity with local planning regulations and fee structures is desirable.
