Specialist Officer β Private Sector Housing (PSH) About this job We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, motivated, and competent Private Sector Housing Practitioner to deliver a range of grants aligned with our statutory obligations as part of our Public Health and Housing Options service. The primary focus will be on delivering mandatory Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs) and additional Housing Assistance Grants under our Housing Act responsibilities and the MDDC Housing Assistance Policy. This includes stair lifts, bathroom adaptations, home repairs, Warm-Up, and Home Start grants, working with our Home Improvement Loans provider. The post holder will inspect premises, assess suitability for adaptations, prepare schedules, specifications, and sketch plans, and advise on planning or building regulation involvement. They will also advise on assistance packages, prepare application forms, legal papers, and assist with resource testing. Relevant experience working with vulnerable customers and an understanding of buildings and construction are essential. Knowledge of the Housing Health and Safety Rating Scheme (HHRSS) is preferred for providing remedial advice and dealing with urgent situations using emergency housing powers. The role requires a commitment to customer service, engaging with diverse customers and service providers, and providing high-quality advice on grants. An understanding of safeguarding procedures and the ability to signpost customers to other services is necessary. The candidate should be a team player, confident working independently, and committed to community wellbeing. Computer literacy is essential; familiarity with IDOX Uniform is desirable but training can be provided. A full, clean driving license and access to a vehicle are required for travel across the area.
