Overview

We would like to recruit a trainee sonographer (Band 5/6) to join our ultrasound team starting January 2026. We are looking for a candidate who is seeking a career change and has a keen interest in ultrasound.

Training and progression

Training will be for 1 academic year to achieve the Post Graduate Certificate in General Ultrasound. On completion of the course, as a Band 7 sonographer you will be part of the team delivering ultrasound services to the Community Diagnostic Hub at Northwich Infirmary.

Rotations and opportunities

There will be rotation to Leighton to maintain competency with inpatient scanning, and also the opportunity to work in the Community setting if desired.

The first year will involve focusing on achieving the Post Graduate Certificate on a CASE registered course at either Salford or Cumbria University. This will require commitment to practical training provided at Leighton Hospital by your mentor and sonographer colleagues. Your academic training will run alongside this and you will be expected to dedicate your time in work and outside of work to achieving a successful outcome.

Only on satisfactory completion of the course and subject to acceptable practical assessments will you be promoted to Band 7. At this point you will work mainly at the CDH providing ultrasound services to the surrounding community.
