Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner to join our Urology team, which is expanding to complement a brand-new Urology Outpatient Unit. We are looking for a professional, friendly and dynamic individual with a high level of clinical expertise and experience in urology and a passion for delivering a high quality, patient-centred service.

The post holder will work as a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner while undertaking a 3-year Apprenticeship Masters Programme in Advanced Clinical Practice. The MSc is anticipated to commence in December 2025. Alongside the Masters programme, you will practice clinically with supervisors and the multidisciplinary team.

The successful candidate will utilise advanced clinical skills and autonomous decision-making in the assessment, diagnosis, management and review of patients within the specialty of urology.

Evidence of experience within the Urology specialty is essential and the applicant must demonstrate evidence of degree-level study. You will work with the medical and nursing teams to promote delivery of high standard, patient-centred care within a supported environment.

The role will encompass all aspects within the specialty and you will be supported to become an independent practitioner within urology. You will develop to work within the four pillars of advanced practice: clinical practice, management and leadership, education and research.

Responsibilities

• Use highly developed clinical knowledge to independently assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate treatments and interventions for urology patients.
• Undertake physical examination as indicated; autonomously analyse complex clinical signs and investigation results to consider differential diagnoses and initiate treatment as required.
• Triage referrals appropriately and review patients in a timely manner according to presentation.
• Liaise with community teams to prevent avoidable urology admissions to hospital or ED attendances.
• Perform clinical procedures appropriate to history and examination, including invasive testing and treatments with highly developed skills (e.g., catheterisation, cannulation, peripheral arterial blood gas sampling).
• Analyse multiple data sources to inform diagnoses and clinical decisions; present findings to senior staff when scope of practice is exceeded.
• Autonomously formulate management plans and complex treatment plans for acute and episodic illnesses, including referrals, admissions or discharge.
• Continuously reevaluate findings and adjust ongoing management as needed.
• Contribute to clinical governance by leading quality improvement, audit and research projects within the MDT.
• Conduct patient assessments, order and interpret diagnostic tests (urine, bloods, imaging and other urological investigations) to aid diagnosis.
• Collaborate with urologists to develop individualized treatment plans based on patient needs and diagnosis.
• Prescribe medications and treatments for urological conditions within scope of practice and Trust policies.
• Perform minor procedures such as catheterisation, bladder scan, LA TP biopsy, cystoscopy, stent removal and Botox treatment under supervision or independently as appropriate.
• Educate patients and families about urological conditions, treatment options and self-care strategies; provide counselling on lifestyle modifications.
• Address patient concerns and provide support throughout the treatment process in a patient-centred manner.
• Coordinate with other healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care for surgical interventions or specialised procedures.
• Schedule and conduct urology follow-up appointments to monitor progress, assess treatment efficacy and address complications or side effects.
• Adjust treatment plans as needed based on patient response and clinical findings.

Qualifications/Requirements

• Evidence of experience within the Urology specialty is essential.
• Demonstrate evidence of degree-level study.
• Willingness to undertake the MSc Advanced Clinical Practitioner Apprenticeship Programme over a three-year period, commencing December 2025.
• Ability to work collaboratively with medical and nursing teams in a supportive environment and commit to developing into an independent practitioner in urology.
