Overview
We are looking for enthusiastic, energetic, innovative Senior Staff Nurses to join our Child and Adolescent Nursing Team.
The Child and Adolescent Unit comprises a 27 bed inpatient area, including 4 HDU beds, a 7 bed day case surgery area and a 12 bed assessment area.
This is an exciting time for CAU. We need Band 6s who are ready to lead a team, stand out, and strive for excellence within clinical practice and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will have excellent leadership and clinical skills and will participate in leadership, education, development and supervision of the team, with awareness of trust policies and procedures and an understanding of current national issues. We are looking for enthusiasm, energy and a passion for nursing children and young people.
To provide nursing care to children aged 0-16 years with medical, surgical and mental health needs in a caring and compassionate manner.
To coordinate the shift, leading a team of junior staff, demonstrating clear leadership skills.
Participation in ensuring safeguarding and mental health referral processes are followed, and participation in local and national audit.
Participation in the development of services, making suggestions for change and leading on improvements.
Accepting delegated line management tasks such as managing sickness and absence, conducting appraisals for junior staff and maintaining the electronic roster.
Take responsibility for own learning and development and the learning and development of others.

Service Delivery
To lead on a shift as shift co-ordinator, managing a team to deliver care to patients in a safe and effective manner. This involves working in inpatient, assessment and day case surgery areas, and leading in handovers and escalation of issues to the Ward Manager.
Governance
- Promote the individual needs of the patient by acknowledging preferences, rights and choices, respecting privacy and dignity, promoting anti-discriminatory practice, and alerting senior staff if patient care appears disrespectful or discriminatory.
- Ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are adhered to at all times.
- Ensure effective communication and data awareness policies and legislation are followed.
- Contribute to the content of policies, procedures and guidelines related to the clinical area.
- Ensure compliance with Trust policies and guidelines, taking action or alerting senior management if practice contravenes policy or if there are concerns about patient care.
Managerial / Leadership
- Participate in the development of services from the patient perspective, leading improvements under the direction of the Ward Sister / Charge Nurse.
- Initiate patient and public involvement activities in the ward area leading to service improvement.
- Demonstrate clinical leadership by prioritising patient care, allocating, supervising and evaluating the work of the team under the direction of the Ward Sister / Charge Nurse.
- Accept delegated line management responsibilities, including team management, recruitment, local induction, and work-based learning and education.
- Participate in the efficient use of physical and financial resources, ensuring appropriate staff numbers and skill mix, along with equipment and supplies, and report concerns.
- Ensure a healthy, safe and secure working environment, maintaining compliance with legal and regulatory requirements and accurate documentation.
