Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant in the Stroke Department at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is an exciting opportunity for the successful motivated and enthusiastic candidate to join the team based at Leighton Hospital in Crewe. This is a fixed term post until 04.08.2026.

We are looking for a Locum Consultant Stroke Physician with a specialist interest, passion, and drive to further develop and deliver the appropriate care and diagnostic service for patients presenting with Stroke, Transient Ischaemic Attack (TIA) and Stroke mimics. We are committed to supporting a healthy work life balance and will support options of flexible working, annualised job plans and less than full time working.

This role comes with the opportunity for the successful applicant (should they wish) to spend two sessions to further develop interests in other areas which may include another specialty service or alternatively medical education, clinical governance and quality improvement, clinical leadership or research.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated with a passion to improve the quality of patient care. They will have strong communication skills and be an excellent ‘Team Player’. They will value training and education.

The successful candidate will be based at Leighton Hospital, Crewe in the Stroke Unit, Division of Medicine and Emergency Care. They will join the existing team of Consultants, providing Stroke and TIA services and developing a collaborative approach to care provided at Mid Cheshire Hospital, Foundation Trust (MCHFT) and the wider NHS.

MCHFT works in partnership with University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM) hospital as part of our Stronger Together Partnership, covering all areas of Stroke care including Stroke Prevention, Hyper-Acute Stroke Care, Post Stroke Care and Stroke Rehabilitation.

The successful applicant must have full registration with the GMC and continue to hold a Licence to Practise. The applicant must also be on the Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training.

The Trust, which manages Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Victoria Infirmary in Northwich, and Elmhurst Intermediate Care Centre in Winsford, was established as an NHS Trust in April 1991 and became a Foundation Trust in April 2008. We employ almost 5,000 members of staff, provide around 540 hospital beds, with a range of services including accident and emergency, maternity, outpatients, therapies, and children's health.

The Trust is also part of Central Cheshire Integrated Care Partnership (CCICP), a unique local health partnership that provides a range of community services for people across South Cheshire and Vale Royal.

The Trust is one of a small number of hospitals nationally confirmed to be in an early phase of the national New Hospital Build Programme. This will result in the acute hospital on the Leighton site being completely rebuilt and operational by 2031, providing fantastic opportunities for development and transformation of elective and acute surgical services at MCHFT.

Direct Clinical Care (DCC) 9 PAs per week (includes clinical activity, clinically related activity, predictable and unpredictable emergency work) and includes 1.25 PAs to cover scheduled on-call work (identified as on-call on job plan timetable). Supporting Professional Activity (SPA) 1 PA per week (includes CPD, audit, research, and appraisal).
